Some Basic Services

From mild to wild, I can do it all.

I charge $75 an hour for work, but don’t let that scare you. Many of my services are a set cost that keeps those services more affordable than charging my hourly shop rate.

Restring

Starting at $20.00

String change and a quick wipe-down of your guitar. No problem-solving here. If you have fret buzz or other issues it’s going to cost more. Price listed does NOT include cost of strings. You may bring your own or I can get the ones you need at my cost. Generally speaking I will also clean and oil your fretboard if it needs it.

General Setup

Need more than strings? Starting at 1 hr at $60

Is your guitar or bass just not playing quite right? You tune it with a tuner but the chords still sound out of tune? Are the strings a mile off the fretboard? I will adjust the action and intonation as necessary. Please note that a LARGE portion of brand new guitars experience fret buzz with low action. I will get it as low as I can without buzz. If it is not to your liking we can talk about adding other services such as a fret level and polish which will allow the action to be set much lower. I will check to make sure the pickup heights are balanced properly so that volume output is consistent from pickup to pickup as well as make any small adjustments to the depths of the nut slots and bridge saddles necessary.

The guitar will get a general wipe-down and fretboard conditioner as it applies to the type of fretboard the neck has. If you have a guitar whose electronics are mounted to a pickguard (Like a Strat or a Telecaster) I will have to remove the strings to get to the electronics to clean them, so keep in mind that a general setup on an instrument that requires dealing with crunchy electronics WILL incur a charge for strings of your choice as taking them off and reinstalling them quite often results in string breakage.

Full Refret

The Caddy of services. Starting at $350

This is the fully loaded car of services I offer. Because of the nature of fretwork, it requires cleaning, a new nut, and a full setup following the replacement of frets. This price is for Jescar brand Nickel frets which have shown great reliability for me and thousands of other builders and players. Stainless Steel is a 30$ upcharge due to the inherently more difficult nature of working with stainless.

“Ryan has replaced the capacitors in my Mesa Boogie Trem O Verb Dual Rectifier head. He also did a complete overhaul on my Ibanez RG7620 7 string guitar. I wanted Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers in it, and routing was needed in both pickup cavities so they would fit. In addition, extra material had to be removed from the bottom of the bridge pickup cavity so that the pickup wouldn’t sit up to high, and so it could still be adjusted. After that he painted the pickup cavities black for me to match the finish on the guitar. He also installed a big brass block on the tremolo, installed a tremol-no bridge system, and strap locks. He even buffed the body for me while it was apart just to make it shine. I haven’t had to touch the setup ever since, aside from changing strings. He has always done great work, and is very knowledgeable and really goes above and beyond because it’s so evident that he really enjoys his craft. I definitely recommend Verthein Guitar Works!”
